The past six weeks have been both exciting and, possibly, nerve-wracking for Apple fans as the launch date for the new iPhone 5S and a few other products fast approaches. There have been rumours, pictures and expectations popping up everywhere on the World Wide Web, from waterproof and plastic casing to a larger, 5 inch iPhone nicknamed the “phablet” – essentially an iPad that can be used as a mobile phone.

Tomorrow’s Apple event: What to expect

With the event being just a day away, we’re all curious of what to expect at the event so here is a basic rundown of everything we’ve seen and heard over the past few weeks.

Plastic Casing

Until now the iPhone has only been of a brushed aluminium material which is strong but can be rather daunting to talk on and hold when it’s a cold day. Websites have been claiming that Apple is about to introduce a new model called the iPhone 5C with plastic casing and a lower price. Many people may think that this will make the iPhone look like any other smartphone, however, here’s the cool bit: it is believed that casing will be of different colours and even replaceable, saving owners of the iPhone from buying fancy protective covers.

iOS 7

Tech fans are always excited upon the news of a new operating system and it’s likely that this will be no different. The “golden master” version of iOS 7 has been released to developers and will hopefully be unveiled at tomorrow’s event (but only to the aforementioned developers. It will be available to the general public around autumn). So, what will this OS include? General expectations have said that it will include a brand new control centre, transparent animations and more, all of which are expected to be available for the new iPad 2, 3, 4 and Mini as well as the iPhone 4. There will also be a completely new interface although the specs of this have not yet been revealed.

iTunes Radio

There are many apps out there (I find that Tune-in is the best so far) that provide clear and easy listening/access to a number of online and DAB-only radio stations, but Apple hasn’t provided its own until now. iTunes Radio will operate through iTunes as the name suggests and will be completely free due to ad-support which can be removed for $24.99 a year.

Apple TV Update

With this year’s update, users will be able to watch films and TV programmes which have been purchased on another Apple TV. It is possible that the iTunes radio can be played through the TV, although this has not been confirmed.
I’m sure that over the coming months, more little updates and features will be added to both the iPhone 5S and iOS 7, but until then we can only rub our hands together in anticipation.
