iPhone tops smartphone market

In just a year, the iPhone has managed to make it to the top of the smartphone charts beating mobile giants Nokia by approximately 2 million sales.

iPhone tops smartphone market

During the second quarter of 2011, Apple managed to sell 20.3 million iPhones, securing a market share of 19.1 percent as opposed to just 8 million (market share: 13%) iPhones sold in the second quarter of 2010, giving Apple an increase of 141.7 percent in shipments.

The company has also beaten current rivals Samsung (creators of the Galaxy S) who now have a market share of 16.2 percent.

The iPhone 4 may have only been on the market for a year but it appears that the phone is doing well and we can only hope and believe that it will continue to do so. However, with Windows Mobile becoming rather popular it looks like a battle could commence. May the best (i)Phone win.
